Franz Wilhelm Ferling (1796 – 1874) was a German oboist, composer and clarinetist. An accomplished musician, he is chiefly remembered today for his 48 Etudes for Oboe, op. 31, which are commonly studied by oboists and saxophonists.
Printed as two separate parts due to the scale of the work, these three duets (originally for two oboes) are beautiful examples of music from the early Romantic period. Each has three movements; a central slow movement surrounded by two faster ones. Melodies are shared between the two players, making these a great way for players to gain experience playing true duets with other musicians. A great performance piece – always goes down well in concerts.
