Variations in F
By Renee A. Higgins
For Flute, Oboe and Clarinet
Score and Parts
Variations in F is a selection for yourng ensemble with implements several musical elements important to the development of ensemble playing. The transition from one variation to the next while necessitating a change in style, also requires the player to be aware of each other's individual lines.
Since the first variation is the beginning and the end of the piece, strive for a strong sound here, almost marcato. The second variation beginning at bar 13, by contrast, should be legato, as in a chorale. The final variation, beginning with solo clarinet at bar 21, should be light and playful.
