Winner of the 2012 Fujin Duo ‘weekend competition’, Water No Fire is based on “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”, the stunning painting by Hokusai—premise of Fujin Duo’s competition. And the music is literally based on “The Great Wave”, for included in the score is the image and the patterns and paths around the water and sky and boats that gave rise the the score. The music can be played as an improvisation from the image or from its transcription into a standard score by the composer.
