Composed by David Mitcham, this work is in three contrasting movements.
Busy Bossa – Rhythmic accuracy is required here. Practice clapping the rhythm until it becomes automatic. Make sure you don't rush unsyncopated notes. Best to rehearse it slowly, then build up the tempo.
Time Slipping By – Most phrases in this piece have a sighing quality to them-try to reflect this in the accompaniment, particularly in the 5th and 6th flutes. From bar 57 onwards the tune passes from player to player, try to make it sound as one line. Make sure the tune can be heard at all times.
Mind the Steppe – Russian Rondo – This is a piece of great contrasts; loud/soft, staccato/legato, serious/fun – emphasize them. If you have the tune, bring it out, if you haven't make sure you can hear it. Clock-like rhythmical accuracy is required here too.
