Tapices

The idea for this work stems from the observation of simple patterns of basket and textile weavings of Venezuelan indian tribes from the Amazon basin.  The personal translation of this concept is the simple musical patterns and their variations, superpositions, displacements, augementaion, diminution and internal reodering of motives to generate a more complex structure.  There is an important influence of the music of the native Venezuelans, especially from the Piaroa culture, with the motives of a very few notes that seem to repeat themselves, but also reveal a permanent variation of rhythms, melodies and expressions that avoid exact reptition.  There are also moments where the images of the traditions of medieval Europe, Near and Middle Eastern cultures woven into this tapestry.  It was originally conceived fro flute octet, and received a partial sponsorship from the the Venezuelan National Flute Orchestra.
